Christian Aid - Cut the Carbon Birmingham

Following quickly on the heels of the Leeds event, we once again find ourselves with a one day build-show-derig event for Christian Aid.

This time the event has taken place in Birmingham – and despite a last minute change of venue all went to plan. The special guest at this event was pop-star Lemar who entertained the crowds.

As a major provider of event management services, we were pleased to be awarded the contract to manage the 2007 Youth Event at Walsingham. Our teams of event and production managers have been working with the organisers for the last few months to organise the infrastructure, plan the campsite and organise the technical equipment.

We provided a team of event managers to roll-out the site, manage the event and clear away everything at the end.
The event was a great success and we are already looking forward to next year.

The Affinity team have been working with Christian Aid over the past few months to prepare for the series of ‘Cut the Carbon’ events which are to take place over the next few weeks. We’ve just battled through the weather to deliver the first event in Edinburgh – and despite the rain a really good time was had by all.
Affinity provided all site management and production teams for the one day event – the most challenging part of which was the need to be in and out in just one day.

The LED screen and sound systems worked well and certainly provided the ‘wow-factor’ requested by the client.
‘Dear Rob, Gary, Ben, Simon and all at Affinity.
A massive thank you for all your hard work in Edinburgh.
We feel it was a great start to the rally tour – fingers crossed for better weather next time!’
Best wishes from all at Campaigns at Christian Aid
Firm Foundations Festival 2007

Since our inception in 2001, Affinity Events has managed the infrastructure elements of the Firm Foundations Festival on behalf of the Girls and Boys Brigade. The annual event takes place at the Boys Brigade headquarters with Affinity planning and booking all event infrastructure, including marquees, toilets, showers and the main Big Top venue.
Our event management team has worked closely with the event organisers over the years to ensure that the infrastructure requirement closely matches the ever-changing needs of the event. Our team also provide on-site facilities management to assist with the smooth running of the event.

Affinity Events are proud to have been working with the Archbishop’s Council on their event to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery. This event has proved to be one of the most challenging to organise, due to short lead times, unknown audience numbers and the requirement to hold not one but two simultaneous marches through the centre of London.
This act of social action saw almost 3,000 people march through the city streets of London to Kennington Park where the production team from Affinity provided a stage show with speeches, music and theatre from a range of performers. Add to this the requirement that all equipment had to be built, used and removed within the space of one day – led to tight scheduling and detailed planning.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams took a pivotal role in the event, marching with the crowds and speaking from the stage.
One of the challenges was to control the 40 + media people who turned up from around the world and to provide camera positions both in Whitehall and in Kennington Park.
‘I know that many, many hours of preparation went into the planning and organisation of the event. It will be a great day that will be remembered and for all the right reasons,
by the thousands who joined us.’
Dr Rowan Williams – Archbishop of Canterbury
Christian Aid - Contract Win

We are pleased to once again be working with the Campaigns team at Christian Aid in 2007. Following the success of our work with them in 2006, our team have been appointed to organise a four date tour of the UK to support the international charity’s ‘Cut the Carbon Campaign’. Not only will Affinity produce a concert style event in Edinburgh, Leeds, Birmingham and Cardiff, but also work with organisers, local authorities and police forces to close roads through the town centre for a march to support the campaign.
The event will be built for up to 8,000 people and will take place at greenfield sites, meaning full medical, production and sanitary infrastructure will be brought onto site.

The Affinity Events team have just returned from their second visit of the year to the Blackpool Winter Gardens where they have completed the bi-annual MAYC youth event. Affinity have been working with MAYC since 2002 on their ‘Breakout Event’ which is organised by a team of volunteers for up to 2,000 young people aged between 14 and 18.
A variety of activities took place over the weekend, including a large number of workshops, a sports zone and evening concerts on the Friday and Saturday nights. Our production management team also assisted with the management of all site technical equipment which saw nearly a dozen different venues running at the same time.
Our event ticketing team also managed, designed and administered the ticketing for the event which allowed youth leaders to book online, by phone or by post.
We are pleased to continue our work with MAYC and have already started working on the 2008 event.

As part of their summer activities, Legoland Windsor approached affinity:technical to produce and manage the technical aspects of their Musical Madness weekend. With six shows a day the stage and production teams from Affinity were tasked with providing staging, lighting and sound for audiences of upto 1000 people a show. With two tribute style bands, and as part of the Barney UK tour the weekend was well received by all those who attended. Although the weather was terrible the team worked tirelessly throughout the event - and were completely off site within three hours of the shows finishing.

Every year Affinity Events work with the Boys & Girls Brigade, providing infrastructure including a large Big Top, for their annual weekend event. This year various members of the team took charge of different parts of the site equipment, and were on site for just over a week.
The event was very popular, and attracted over one thousand young people for the weekend’s activities.

Affinity Events have been working with the MAYC for the last four years, and are responsible for helping to produce three large scale events for them this year alone. Second in the trilogy was 6T:Intense - a weekend camping event in Derbyshire.
