Making Our Mark - Archbishop’s Council

Affinity Events are proud to have been working with the Archbishop’s Council on their event to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery.  This event has proved to be one of the most challenging to organise, due to short lead times, unknown audience numbers and the requirement to hold not one but two simultaneous marches through the centre of London.

This act of social action saw almost 3,000 people march through the city streets of London to Kennington Park where the production team from Affinity provided a stage show with speeches, music and theatre from a range of performers.  Add to this the requirement that all equipment had to be built, used and removed within the space of one day – led to tight scheduling and detailed planning.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams took a pivotal role in the event, marching with the crowds and speaking from the stage.

One of the challenges was to control the 40 + media people who turned up from around the world and to provide camera positions both in Whitehall and in Kennington Park.

‘I know that many, many hours of preparation went into the planning and organisation of the event.  It will be a great day that will be remembered and for all the right reasons,
by the thousands who joined us.’
Dr Rowan Williams – Archbishop of Canterbury
